Community Foundations celebrated 100 years
of doing good in 2014.
The first community foundation was formed in Cleveland by Frederick H. Goff. His vision was to pool charitable resources into a single, great and permanent endowment for the betterment of his city. The U.S. has more than 700 community foundations now, and there are nearly 1,000 more around the world.
The oldest community foundation in Louisiana is also our partner. The Baton Rouge Area Foundation was created in 1964, a half century after the original Cleveland Foundation. The foundation in Baton Rouge helps to underwrite our work, provides money and account management, and the support of its staff to help us expand philanthropy.
